Our country has a rich ecological diversity with an area of 78 million hectares. Within this richness, forests have an important place in terms of species and composition. According to the determinations made by the General Directorate of Forestry as of 2015, the forest area covers 28.6% of the country's area with 22,342,935 ha. Muğla region, on the other hand, has an important place in our country with its 831,319 ha forested area. Muğla Province, especially Köyceğiz district, is among the rich regions of Turkey in terms of forest resources, and forestry and forest products activities are intense.
Tree, afforestation, forestry, forest management, forest products, nursery technique, forest ecosystems, bedrock and soil characteristics, wildlife, forest care and protection, promotion, production and marketing of forest products, medicinal and aromatic plants, solid and sheet wood products The graduates of the "Forestry and Forest Products" Program, which will receive training in the fields of lumber and its derivatives, promotion of wood materials and energy production from renewable resources, are the manpower that our country and our region need.
Work Opportunities for Graduates of the Department
Graduates of the Forestry and Forestry products program are trained in technical and administrative positions in central and provincial organizations affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, General Directorate of Forestry), General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, General Directorate of Highways, and State Planning Organization. they do tasks. They can also work as technical staff in the private sector, private forestry offices, landscaping companies, private nurseries and other private organizations that do business and operations related to forestry.
Placement, Vertical Transfer, Double Major and Minor Opportunities
Students who have completed their high school education and get sufficient points in the Higher Education Institutions Examination (TYT) are deemed to have earned the right to settle in the department. Graduates of Forestry and Forest Products Program, Department of Forestry can transfer vertically to Forest Engineering and Forestry Industrial Engineering departments with the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) organized by ÖSYM. There is no double major or minor program in our department.
Internship Opportunities
Our students can do internships in the central and provincial units of the General Directorate of Forestry and the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, private forestry offices, factories producing forest products and within the Forestry Department of our School. Students do their internship for 6 weeks, 30 working days, between the dates determined by our School.
Fields of Study and Job Opportunities
In order to be appointed as a forest protection officer in the provincial institutions of the General Directorate of Forestry, from the associate degree programs of higher education institutions; It is required to graduate from the departments of Forestry Management, Forestry, Forest Products and Non-Wood Forest Products. In order to be appointed to the civil service for the first time, it is obligatory to get enough points from the Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS-Associate Degree) and to pass other exams to be held by the institution. For this reason, program graduates are generally employed in the public sector. In addition, they can work as technical personnel in private sector enterprises where forestry activities are carried out, in factories producing forest products, and in companies producing saplings.
Appointment Status of Graduate Students of Our Department
Our student, who graduated from our department, was appointed to the OGM on a contractual basis by getting a passing grade in the KPSS exam and the oral interview made by the Ministry of Forestry. Most of our students were appointed through forest guard recruitments made in 2019 and 2022. Although there is no clear result regarding our assigned students, it is known that 75 of our students whom we have contacted are working as guardians.
